COMPOS MENTIS Explains Label Choice

May 22, 2009

Danish melodic death metallers COMPOS MENTIS have inked a deal with Strange Ears for the release of their third album, "Our Kingdom of Decay". Due on June 22, the CD's lyrical concept is based on "various shady sides of Denmark's history, e.g. the disfiguration of The Little Mermaid, an insane king, the mass murderer Dagmar Overbye and a strong predilection for lobotomies." According to the label, "Our Kingdom of Decay" is "by far the strongest album from COMPOS MENTIS, with its way more aggressive character than the previous releases.

Commented the band: "So why have we chosen Strange Ears? Well, for starters, we have previously worked with them in booking matters and have been more than satisfied with their efforts! Mainman Steffen has followed us through many years and it is reassuring to have him represent our music as we know that he is enthusiastic about it. Another things is that we expect 'Our Kingdom of Decay' to appeal to a wider audience (but fear not, O metal freaks out there — it might be the most hard-hitting album from COMPOS MENTIS so far!) and therefore it is perfect that Strange Ears is not only a metal label, rather it represents a wide range of different music genres. In other words, we are looking very much forward to collaborating with them!

"The band adds, "We have had two covers made [see the two images below] for the new album, one with a portrait of The Little Mermaid and one with Holger Danske. For this reason we are running a vote/contest, where you can send us your opinion on which cover you like best and which one you would like to see on 'Our Kingdom of Decay'. Visit ourkingdomof.dk to see the cover artworks, state your opinion and, hopefully, win CDs and t-shirts!"

COMPOS MENTIS' second album, "Gehennesis", was released in March 2007 via Mighty Music.
